Mecca Cosmetica Toorak Road

I had a great experience getting my makeup done at this Mecca and the artists and staff are professional yet create a lovely and welcoming atmosphere. Phil did a superb job on my makeup and was able to flawlessly give me the look I was going for. I looked very cute, felt amazing and got lots of compliments on my makeup at the concert I went to. He was also very funny and good at conversation and just a very wonderful person which elevated the experience. All in all I would highly recommend getting your makeup done at this Mecca.

I had a similar experience to what’s described in the last review by Carly. Told the first salesgirl that I am looking for hair tonic, she gave me hair oil and gave zero apology when I showed her it was the wrong product and quickly put it back to the drawer. I had to open the drawer myself to find the hair oil as I thought I might take a look again. Then a woman walked up and started talking to me in a really condescending manner, I asked if she was the manager because the previous salesgirl clearly didn’t give the damn about the job but I was hesitant and held back the complaint. The service was not genuine at all and the pretentious fake smiling mannerism is utterly off putting.

Definitely a regular in this store and just want to say that I have never had an issue with the employees until today. While I was waiting to select a lipstick (knew the exact one I wanted) I grew impatient and went to select it myself to which a member of staff came zooming out the back to scold me. Reaching in front of my body (way too close for comfort) to shut the drawer I had just opened and tell me off. I totally get that it’s inconvenient for the employees to have the customer do this but the way she approached the situation and her tone was so appalling and demeaning. Actually left me feeling really awkward and embarrassed and had to leave quickly when I had the intention of buying a few Christmas gifts.

I went in today for help with products and advice for a wedding - mine. I’m in my 40s, male. I was invisible to the staff in the store. Sure it’s busy, there are other customers, almost all women. It’s the second time this has happened here at this South Yarra store. This was not inclusive, nor welcoming. Why not even make eye contact and provide some acknowledgment - I was happy to wait. I first came to the South Yarra store in 2015 and it was a completely different vibe. Melbourne Central today is like this store once was.

I’ve come to this Mecca heaps of times and never had a problem, but today I was quite disappointed in all the employees lack of awareness. I came in to purchase one item for a Christmas present, I found it within 30 seconds and headed to the register closest to the front door. Waited for about 3 minutes and no one acknowledged me. At least 6 Mecca employees looked at me but didn’t bother to help, one of them was just staring at me with her smoothie cup in her hand in the back corner were one of the other registers were. I then walked over to the register located in the middle of the store and still took at least another minute for an employee to help me out. Reading this you could say oh well it’s the Christmas period and everyone is busy… there was about 3 other customers in the store. I don’t know if something was in the air today but I’m not too keen to go back to this Mecca anytime soon.

I was scolded by one of Toorak’s employees!! When I received next to no assistance or greeting the entire 20 minutes I was in store and after I attempted to get the attention of staff, I decided to go find the product I was looking for in the drawers for myself. I then received an awfully patronising telling off by one of your employees that wasn’t appreciated nor necessary. It left me with an incredibly sour taste in my mouth for Mecca Toorak. As a retail worker I understand that a customer going in the drawers is annoying, but if I received assistance from staff in the first instance this wouldn’t have been an issue. The overall vibe of the staff in this store is appalling and offputting.
